The Hand of God

Ronny L. Jackson, the physician who had been Trump’s doctor in the White House and is now treating him for the bullet wound to his ear, noted that “The bullet passed coming less than a quarter of an inch from entering his head.” This happened because Trump turned his head at the very moment the bullet was fired. Many see this as the hand of God, including President Trump himself, who has repeatedly and publicly declared that “It was God alone” who saved him.

Astonishingly, just one week later, another extraordinary event occurred: the sudden and dramatic reversal of fortune between Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Biden.

Since at least last March, the Biden administration has been plotting and openly calling for the ouster of the democratically elected Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu[1]. It has been surmised that the Biden administration was attempting to carry out this soft coup by encouraging and financing, directly or indirectly, the increasingly strident and sometimes violent anti-Netanyahu protests in Israel.  They also hoped to co-opt alternative Israeli politicians, including opposition leader Beni Ganz and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Such direct interference in Israel’s democracy is unprecedented between two allied democracies.

As part of his campaign to delegitimize the Israeli Prime Minister, President Biden initially refused to meet with Netanyahu during his visit to the United States to address a joint session of Congress. Then Biden suddenly reversed course and sought a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister as Biden now needed Netanyahu to shore up his public image rather than the other way around. However, by the time they met on July 22nd, it was Biden, not Netanyahu, who was forced to resign from his bid for reelection following a back-room coup engineered by his own party.

Biden now stands as a lame-duck president, widely acknowledged as a figurehead not fully in charge of his own administration. Despite Biden’s failed attempt to oust the Israeli Prime Minister, Netanyahu met with him out of courtesy. Nonetheless, it is unlikely that either Netanyahu or his political rivals will heed Biden’s advice on how Israel should defend, or not defend, herself in her war for survival. It is conceivable that President Biden might ignore the anti-Israel advice of his own advisors, now that they have they have stabbed him in the back.

So, President Trump, who did more for Israel than any other U.S. President, miraculously survives an assassination attempt, and it is the would-be assassin who lies dead. The Biden administration’s attempt to remove Prime Minister Netanyahu from power failed, while it is Biden who has been ousted by his own party. Gaza lies in ruins, while the nation of Israel lives.

Many will not see the connection between these events, and others will ascribe it to coincidence, but I am reminded of the words of the prophet Isaiah: “Make plans, and they will be shattered; scheme, and it shall come to naught, for God is with us.” (Isaiah 8:10)

  1. Dear Devin,

I loved this article! The juxtaposition of those “coincidences” was brilliant and the short and sweet length was perfect. Bravo!

Let’s make a date when you’re back in town.

    Love to you & Tanya,

    Stef

Much as I am an orthodox Jewish person, I don’t think there is anything to gain from such musings as in your latest article.

I think one need to try to analyze political phenomena, as best one can with whatever rational knowledge and understanding that can be brought to bear upon different issues.

Unfortunately your latest piece doesn’t do this at all and thus I feel- uncharacteristically for you, that it lacks a great deal, if not all that one seeks in a piece on politics..etc.

    Keep well David

    1. Didn’t you hear the examples he raised in the article? Devin sites 3 events of close proximity, each affecting a defender of Israel or Israel herself. Each scheme against them was “shattered” coming “to naught”. Don’t you believe Isaiah spoke true?

      1. Nosson.. If and when I wish to consider spiritual, religious aspects of world events I am quite capable to find such approaches with texts and sources, starting with the Book of Esther, for example, for which we have been celebrating each year for over two thousand years. In a modern writer upon political events I seek to benefit from Devin’s political analysis and outlook. This is a rare piece from him, where this is lacking. That is why I criticised it.

    2. David,

The way I see it, the author, for a change, did not intend to go into a political analysis. Devin chose “Make plans, and they will be shattered; scheme, and it shall come to naught, for God is with us.” (Isaiah 8:10) to explain Trump’s miraculous survival, and a sudden reversal of fortunes for Biden and Netanyahu. Period.

No deep political analysis is needed in this case.

      1. Who are you, may I ask? Your reply is exactly why I felt it necessary to criticise Devin’s article. As an orthodox believing Jew, I found its spiritual philosophical musings inappropriate and unsought for in a political analysis, an area in which the reader may learn something.

      2. David,

I reiterate that Devin obviously had no intention to provide political analysis in this article. Why do you pigeonhole him?

As an author, working for no one, he has a right to express his ideas any way he wants. Contrary to your (bewildering) perception, I do not find Devin’s “spiritual philosophical musings”, as you called them, in this article. The events concerning Trump, as well as Biden and Netanyahu, are undisputable facts, not musings.

So, do you have an issue with the message in “Make plans, and they will be shattered; scheme, and it shall come to naught, for God is with us.” (Isaiah 8:10) ? If so, then take it up with Isaiah. Since you can’t do that, then direct it to Devin.

The author deliberately did not go into any theological arguments whether the use of the word “miracle” is justifiable here. Your observation about “musings” is completely a moot point here. He just expressed his view of the events. You either agree or disagree with it. No more, no less.

As far as, your labeling the article’s message ” inappropriate and unsought for”, I find it extremely presumptious and a bit arrogant. Actually some readers, especially non-Jews, may learn something new from it, and it definitely would benefit the entire world, which seems to be on fire these days, to hear this message once again:

“Make plans, and they will be shattered; scheme, and it shall come to naught, for God is with us.” (Isaiah 8:10)

        Best,

Just a person who can read English. Does that answer your baffling question at the beginning of your reply?

  3. Rimma..

I’ve no idea who you are. My view is simple and I think Devin understands me well, even if you don’t. After all, he knows me and we have been friends from as long as 40 years ago, in Jerusalem. I know and like his insightful political analysis and I usually can learn something from what he writes. This particular piece lacked this.. so I criticised it. Best wishes to Devin.
